Standards
have been introduced and adopted so that a uniform, consistent product
that ensures high quality and reliability is realized. Standards are
created by committees which includes members from public, government and
the industry. The committee develop a document that lays down the
criteria for a process, procedure, test or a product. In the U.S.,
ANSI, the American National Standards Institute is the
organization that a thoroughly defined method is maintained in
developing these standards. IPC is one
such standards committee that establishes the procedures
for electronics assembly and provides the conditions for either
acceptance or rejection of a assembly.
Standards are
used as a competitive marketing tool and give organizations immediate
recognition. Customers are able to instantly understand the
manufacturing cycle followed in the organization by knowing the
standards followed by a company.
At AMP, the
standards defined in IPC-A-610C are followed to ensure high quality in
our assemblies. All associates at AMP involved in assembly lines are
instructed, trained and tested to work by these standards.
